Video Editing

When I was in High School I really had no hobbies or interests, that was until I was a senior and edited my first video. Editing film or videos is really fun. It is one of those tasks that you just lose track of time on, where things just flow. But the implications of what video editing can and do do is not so comforting. The reason why reality TV is really not reality is because it is edited and pieced together to seem more dramatic as it really is. If you were to watch the footage of these reality tv shows without editing it might actually seem half-way feasible. Instead we get what we see a TV show.

  1. That's an interesting comment, because what would Jersey Shore be like? hahah yikes! I think I would most likely not watch a lot of the reality shows I do now if there wasn't editing.

  2. What an interesting point, not only is today's reality TV not reality because it is just so fake, but this is an additional reason why- the filming method. I would be so interested to watch a program that is really "reality" and not edited like you say, it's too bad those kinds of programs aren't usually found on TV. I enjoy watching documentary type shows, such as Intervention, which maybe aren't 100% reality as you describe it (stuff is cut down and edited) but these are more realistic than MTV shows, for example.

  3. It is scary to think that editing has this type of an effect of television...you really truly wonder what you watch is actually the full truth (which most likely isn't) and what they are hiding from the public. It makes you almost not trust your news stations and other television stations because you don't know when you are being lied to or being kept from.
